Tricks to Extend the Lifespan of Your Windows

Buying new windows for your home is a major purchase. Luckily though, it isn't something that needs to be done often. However, few people realize that there are a few tips and tricks that can help you extend the lifespan of your new windows. My husband and I recently bought new windows and I wanted to make sure I got the most out of them, which is how I came across these tricks. I spent a lot of time researching and learning about them, so I decided to create a website to help others who may be looking for the same information. I hope this helps you.

Properly Cleaning Glass Shower Doors

by Bradley Castillo

If you have just installed glass shower door in your bathroom, you need to learn how to clean them properly so that you can enjoy their convenience for a long time to come. Here are some steps to follow when cleaning your new doors so that they remain in the best condition.

Keep Cleaning Materials Handy

Shower glass should be cleaned after each shower session to ensure there is no soap residue left on the surface as this could lead to a build-up that's harder to remove. Keeping your cleaning materials in the shower area will help you remember to do the cleaning procedure each time you bathe. Hook a cleaning caddy to the interior of your shower with the needed materials. This should include a glass cleaner, a squeegee, and a washcloth.

Wipe Down The Interior Doors Right Away

It is best to do your cleaning session while you are still inside the shower so there is less chance of water droplets hardening onto the glass. Drape a towel nearby so that you can quickly dry and wrap it around your body so you do not become chilled as you do the cleaning process. Open the door slightly to let out steam and get some cross-ventilating air as you clean.

Spray down the interior glass doors and use a squeegee to whisk it away afterward. Use an up to down motion to remove all the solution while holding the washcloth near the rubber edge of the squeegee to collect the moisture.

Keep The Shower Doors Crystal Clear

Every few weeks, do a more extensive cleaning session to remove any streaks from the glass. Make a half-and-half mixture of white vinegar and water in a bowl and heat it in your microwave for a few seconds, until it is warm. Place this solution inside a spray bottle. Spray down the interior doors and use a non-abrasive sponge to scrub any areas with caked on soap. Spray down the surface again when all visible debris is gone and use the squeegee to remove the solution. Dry the glass with a piece of microfiber cloth to remove any streak marks.

It is a good idea to apply a dab of car wax to the shower doors once or twice a year to fill in any porous sections in the glass. Rub this in using a piece of microfiber cloth and use a clean piece of cloth to remove any excess wax.
